Would you please describe a child's asthma attack?

My little 3 yo had an episode tonight which gave me a bit of a fright. I'm wondering if it be an asthma attack...
Answers:
The classic symptom is a wheeze or whistling (purring) sound on breathing out.
Call 911 if:
*Severe difficulty breathing (struggling for respectively breath, unable to speak or cry because of difficulty breathing, making grunting noises beside each breath).
* Your child passed out or has bluish lips/tongue. Source(s): Surgical Assistant
In children their chest can repeatedly appear to be 'sucking in.' Other symptoms include:
Barking cough, Wheeze, Blue Lips, Unable to speak properly (get words out) Fast breathing. In an asthma attack as soon as they breathe out they will need to breathe contained by again. Unfortunately it is harder to diagnose young children, than say a 5yo, but definatley speak to your doctor asap, and if it happen again call for an ambulance, it may be something worse than asthma. Good luck :) Source(s): Asthmatic
